Our Pre-Storm Preparedness Efforts for Hurricane Milton
At Verandah Properties, we take hurricane preparedness seriously, and we are committed to supporting our tenants and owners as Hurricane Milton approaches. Below, we outline what we can and cannot do to prepare your property for the storm, ensuring clear expectations as we navigate this period.
What Verandah Properties Can Do:
- Tenant Guidance:
We provide tenants with detailed instructions on how to secure their homes and outdoor areas before the storm hits. This includes advising them to:- Bring inside any outdoor furniture, potted plants, or décor that could become dangerous projectiles in high winds.
- Secure garbage bins, bicycles, and other loose items to prevent damage.
- Charge electronic devices and gather essential supplies, such as water, non-perishable food, and flashlights.
- Resource Hub:
We continuously update our website with essential resources for tenants and owners, including storm preparation guides, local emergency contacts, shelter information, and tips for reporting damage after the storm. - Post-Storm Prioritization:
Once the storm has passed, our focus shifts to addressing critical issues like roof leaks, flooding, and large structural damage. We work with our trusted vendors to secure roofs with tarps, restore properties affected by water damage, and provide emergency repairs for broken windows or doors.
What Verandah Properties Cannot Do:
- Window Boarding and Material Installations:
While we can guide tenants on how to protect their homes, Verandah Properties does not provide window boarding services or materials for securing windows and doors. Due to limited vendor availability during hurricane season, local contractors are typically focused on their own properties and families, and securing materials for every home is beyond our capacity. - Hurricane Shutter Installations:
We are unable to install hurricane shutters for individual properties. Owners who have shutters are responsible for installing them in advance of the storm. - Purchasing Emergency Supplies:
We do not have the capacity to purchase or deliver emergency supplies (such as sandbags, plywood, or generators) to individual properties. Tenants should plan to secure these items well in advance as part of their personal preparation efforts.
Working Together
We understand that the uncertainty of an approaching storm can be stressful, but please rest assured that we are doing everything within our capacity to safeguard your property. Our approach is to prepare as much as possible in advance and act swiftly after the storm to mitigate damage and ensure the safety of your home.
